Inexpensive and it works.

This is an inexpensive way to automatically vacuum your pool. It will not get to every area so you will still have to sweep once or twice a week in areas not covered, especially if your pool has algae.I have a 16 x 30 kidney shaped pool with a salt water chlorinator.SUMMERMy pool is covered with a solar cover 6 months out of the year. I also have solar panels on the roof. My family likes the pool very warm, so it is heated (by the sun) to between 85 and 95 degrees from May to October. This means I have a constant battle with algae. All the water needs to be circulated to prevent algae growth, so the pool needs to be brushed or swept at least every other day. I maintain a high chlorine level (2+ ppm) to combat the algae, (nothing else really works) but this eats at the cover and any pool cleaners. Therefore I don't like to buy expensive pool cleaners. The cover and the cleaner needs to be replaced in 2-3 years after it is burned by the heat and chlorine.I purchased this product 2 years ago. It works as described (I have no idea what the other reviewer said was missing as far a the skimmer plate). This product is plugged into the skimmer hole. If you don't have a round hold at the bottom of your skimmer, don't buy it. Installation takes about 5 minutes.It sometimes sticks when a leaf gets caught in the one moving part (the flapper). This is easy to correct by pulling it out, but you have to look at it once in a while to make sure that it is operating properly. You need to keep your filter clean and running properly. If the pump doesn't pump, this cleaner won't work. The flapper does make a noise. It's can be quite bothersome if you are underwater, so most people like me to turn off the cleaner when they are swimming.After two years the hoses started getting worn and torn. The hoses near the surface gave out first, so I'm didn't really need a new cleaner just new hoses, but since the hoses comprise more than half the cost of the entire product, I bought a whole new one and will keep the old hoses as spare. I like that the hoses separate, so if one link breaks, you just replace that link and move on. I think the hoses actually burned from the heat generated by the solar cover coupled with the high chlorine. (If you keep your pool cooler, or don't have a solar cover, they should last at least twice as long)-- although $100/every 2-3 years is still worth it.The cleaner runs for a few hours ever day. Until I had the cleaner, I had to sweep the entire pool at least every other day. If I went away for a few days, the pool would likely be green upon my return. With the cleaner working, the pool is quite clean and if I brush it once a week, it is spotless. I have not once hand-vacuumed the pool since I bought the cleaner.WINTERWith the water cold, and the pool not covered, I don't have algae problems, the cleaner runs an hour a day and picks up most of the stuff that settles on the bottom. I brush once ever couple of weeks and use a hand leaf catcher on a pole after a wind storm. With minimal work, the cleaner basically keeps the pool spotless from one week to the next.In sum, I find the product is simple, inexpensive and it works.P.S. An in-line leaf catcher or bag (or both) which attaches between the hoses or at the skimmer hold can keep your filter cleaner and save the trouble of opening the leaf catcher on the filter pump.Hayward W530 Large Capacity Leaf Canister with Mesh Bag Replacement for Hayward Pool and Spa Cleaners

Chinese Fake - Cannot install as described.

Chinese Fake that does not work as described.- : -In the Manual it says to install it in the Skimmer below the basket with a Skimmer Plate. The so-called skimmer plate does not come with it and I just went to 2 different Pool Stores (Leslie's Pool and Pinch a Penny in Lake Mary, Fl. and they told me that there is no such thing. When I showed the manual to the managers at both stores they said I got SCAMMED and that this Cleaner is a CHINESE FAKE. The Cleaner WILL NOT install in the skimmer as shown in the manual and there is no such thing as a Skimmer Plate like it says. I am disputing the charge on my Credit Card and need a UPS Ground Return Shipping Label to send it back. I have wasted 2 hours trying to get it hooked up and drove to 2 different Pool Stores that both tell me that it is NO GOOD. Again, please mail me a return shipping paid label so I can return this Chinese Fake. Scott Carroll
