5Very good suction - faster drying times.
By A. Rizzo
I have tried 2 other steam cleaners, the Bissel Heat pro and the Hoover (not sure which one). Of the three, the oreck has the best suction. Since it pulls up more water, the floors dry more quickly. As far as getting the floor cleaner, they are pretty close in performance but the Oreck comes out a little ahead. The best part of the oreck to me is that it is the easiest to fill with water and the easiest and cleanest to empty. It is all in one tank that is quick and easy to remove. I find I clean the floors more frequently because it is so quick and easy to use. Also, I didn't like being stuck with using Orecks cleaning liquid. There is a very easy way around that. Set the unit to RINSE mode and add the detergent directly to the clean water. That way you bypass using the Oreck brand cleaner in the little bottles. I have been using Resolve carpet cleaning soap with excellent results. It is cheaper that way and cleans just as good as the Oreck detergent. I would definitely recommend the Oreck steam cleaner.

1Oreck Rinse-A-Matic Steemer (tm)

Of course it's not a real steamer, it has to be spelled "Steemer" (tm). Generally, I think most "steamers" are not steamers and it's probably not necessary to have actual steam to clean most things. But, this is just the beginning of the misrepresentation of this product. Now, to be honest, I do not know if the newer products are any better. But, after reading some current negative reviews, it seems some of the same problems exist with the newer products and SOMEONE needs to clue potential buyers into the hype. I had used mine 3-4 times over the course of 6 months to a year and problems started to arise. Mostly, everything has to do with the plastic parts failing. First there was the handle slider switch that enables the pump to the hand-held wand. It failed to keep the pump running, so I had to manually hold the button on the handle and then somehow work the spayer switch at the wand to allow water to flow. This was largely unworkable, but, because I was under the belief that the Oreck brand was good, and the suction seemed to be good, I continued to use the unit. But at that point, I emailed several times to Oreck and they finally said the unit was too old (I'm thinking 1.5 years old at the time). I also asked for replacement parts, but the answer was the same. NOW KEEP IN MIND, I have had vacuum cleaners last in excess of 10 years with proper maintenance, and generally, most parts for a major brand are available for at least 5 years even if the unit is out of warranty. I decided to live with it and use it only a few times over the next 2 years. Everytime I have, more problems have shown up. Basically, it's apparent that all the plastic parts on the unit are complete crap. Just about everything is literally falling apart. The plastic switch to allow "soap" to inject into the system just spins...obviously it is made of the same cheap plastic. The plastic locking mechanism at the base of the tank has fallen apart, so there is no longer any way to hold the tank up to engange the water and suction feeds, and additionally, the plastic trigger at the wand end has broken apart. Now keep in mind the unit is about 6 years old, but I'm estimating it only has about 8 total hours of use! Are you joking?? I hope Oreck hears me, THIS IS IN NO WAY A QUALITY UNIT DESERVING THE PREMIUM PRICE. BTW, I'm not interested on getting on to Facebook to talk them. I'm old school 50+ years old, retired, top state-of-art thermodynamic engineer... I just might know when a product is built with a lack of quality...just a heads up to potential buyers of this "new" product. It looks the same with different colored plastic...BEWARE.

This carpet cleaner has been around for many years. There's even a newer version that, from what I understand, is basically the same machine with a different colored plastic exterior. So if you're reading this review you are probably considering a used one from craigslist or somewhere else. I got my Rinse-A-Matic at a neighborhood garage sale. It had been sitting in this guys garage for years. I was told it didn't work. In fact it had never worked. --the machine had never been used-- Since I'm a handy person, and the price was right (free), I thought I'd give it a try. I took it apart, fixed the problem (a piece of plastic lodged in one of the tubes) and - voila' - it worked. I will say that under the cheap plastic exterior are some quality parts. A strong vacuum motor, a quality 'Italian made' pump, etc. Anyway... I put the thing back together, gave it a try, and it worked great. Because of all the plastic, it's relatively light and easy to maneuver. Much easier to use than a rug doctor I once rented.CONS: The water tank is small. It's a pain to constantly stop cleaning to refill the tank. At least you'll always be cleaning with hot water because it runs out before the water cools. The Oreck cleaning solution comes in small cartridges that are relatively expensive. You must have a cartridge plugged into the machine for it to work. You will go through a lot of cleaner. My solution: (a tip from another review) I bought a 48 oz bottle of Resolve Steam carpet cleaner ($10) at my local grocery store (Ralphs) and refilled the Oreck bottles. It worked as well as the Oreck shampoo at a much cheaper price. Just take a knife and pop off the top of the Oreck bottle and refill. I used Resolve but I'm sure other carpet cleaners would work as well. SUGGESTIONS: Practice on a small area before the real thing. I used some floor mats made from carpet remnants.Spray and brush the stains with a carpet spot remover before you shampoo. I used Folex. You could probably get many of the stains out with the Oreck machine by going back and forth several time from different angles. But if you do it like that, you'll go through a lot of carpet cleaner and overly saturate the carpet. I followed these directions. "Shampoo-Dry-Rinse-Dry" ...Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Rinsing does more than just remove the soap residue. You'll be surprised at how dirty the water is in the recovery tank after you rinse. Take your time on the final dry. Several slow passes. You'll be glad you did when the carpet is dry the next morning.CONCLUSSION: This machine cleans very well and is easy to use, once you get the hang of it. I gave it 4 stars not 5 because I'm a little concerned about the quality control. The fact that my machine obviously didn't work when it left the factory. With my machine it takes a lot of force to close the latch that hold the water tank in place. I pull the tank up firmly with one hand while pulling the latch with the other, to be sure I don't break the latch. My cleaner leaks water/shampoo out of the back. It doesn't affect anything and I think it will be an easy fix, but I'll have to take it apart again. I like this cleaner. I hope it lasts.
